The contest „The Best Book of Klaipėda“ („Klaipėdos knyga“ – Lithuanian) that has been organized by Klaipėda‘s Municipal Public Library has come to its end. 10 of Klaipėda’s publishers who presented 19 books participated in this traditional contest this year. Only one of them was named the best by the readers of a local newspaper “Vakarų ekspresas” who had been voting for their favorite books.

J.Saulėnienė’s and R.Talik’s book “Drowned Klaipėda” (“Nugrimzdusi Klaipėda“ – Lithuanian) that was awarded with prestigious I.Simonaitytė’s literary prize some time ago was named the most popular book of the year 2009.

Even though the most popular book of the last year was identified by counting the readers’ votes, the most beautiful book of 2009 was chosen by the jury. According to its verdict, the two most beautiful books of the last year were “36 shots. Raimundas Urbonas” (“36 kadrai. Raimundas Urbonas“ – Lithuanian) dedicated to a well-known Klaipėda‘s photographer and “Communication alters the attitude by 180 degrees” (“Komunikacija keičia požiūrį 180 laipsnių“ – Lithuanian). Both books were published by Klaipėda’s Culture Communication Centre.
